Privacy notice
Who we are
Your landlord or letting agent is the data controller for your tenancy records. LarentaPay processes those records on their behalf as a data processor, under the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019 and, where it applies, the EU GDPR.
What we collect
Your name, phone number, email, ID or passport number, KRA PIN (if given), emergency contact, and your rent, bill and payment history.
Why
To manage your tenancy: billing, receipting M-Pesa and bank payments, sending reminders and receipts, and meeting tax record-keeping duties. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising. Marketing messages are only sent if you opt in.
How it’s protected
Data is encrypted in transit and ID numbers, KRA PINs and bank details are encrypted at rest. Every view and export of your record is logged.
How long we keep it
While your tenancy is active, then for the period tax law requires for financial records. After that, your personal details are removed automatically.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, ask for corrections, object to processing, or ask for deletion. Ask your landlord, or use “Download my data” in the tenant app. You may also complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (odpc.go.ke).
Signing in with Google
If you choose “Continue with Google”, Google shares your name, email address and profile picture with us. We use them only to create and sign in to your account. We don’t get your Google password or access to your Gmail, Drive or contacts.
Website enquiries
When you use the contact form we keep your name, phone, email and message so we can reply. We delete enquiries that don’t lead to an account after 12 months.
